Privacy policy

This policy explains what Workboots & Gear (“we”), published by Iron Mako Media, collects when you use this website, why, and what we do not do. It is written to be read rather than to be unreadable.

The short version

  • We do not sell your personal information.
  • We do not run advertising or retargeting pixels.
  • We use Google Analytics to understand which pages are useful, in aggregate.
  • If you submit the contact form, we use your details only to reply to you and we do not add you to any mailing list.
  • Affiliate links set cookies at the retailer, which is how commissions are attributed.

Information we collect

Information you give us

If you use the contact form, we receive the name, email address, topic and message you submit. That is used solely to read and reply to your message. We do not add contact-form submissions to a marketing list, and we do not share them.

The form includes basic spam protections: a hidden field that real visitors never fill in, a timing check, and a short-term record of how many submissions have come from your IP address in the last hour. The IP record exists only to limit automated abuse and is held in memory rather than stored.

Information collected automatically

Like virtually all websites, our hosting provider processes standard server request data - IP address, browser user agent, requested URL, timestamp - as a necessary part of serving pages and protecting against abuse.

We also use Google Analytics 4 to see which pages people read and how they arrive, in aggregate. This sets cookies and processes a truncated form of your IP address. We use it to decide what to write next; we do not use it to build profiles of individuals, and we have not enabled advertising or remarketing features. Google’s own handling of that data is governed by its privacy policy, and you can opt out of Google Analytics across all sites with Google’s browser add-on.

Affiliate links and cookies

This site earns commissions through affiliate programs, principally Amazon Associates - see our affiliate disclosure. When you click a buy link, the retailer sets a cookie that lets them attribute a resulting purchase to this site. That is how we are paid.

We do not receive your order details, your payment information, or anything identifying you personally from those programs. We see aggregate reporting only: how many clicks and how many qualifying orders. Once you leave this site, the retailer’s own privacy policy governs what happens to your data there.

What we do not do

  • We do not sell or rent personal information to anyone, for any purpose.
  • We do not run display advertising, so there are no ad-network trackers on this site.
  • We do not use retargeting or advertising pixels - no Meta pixel, no TikTok pixel, no advertising remarketing tags.
  • We do not operate a mailing list, so we cannot add you to one.
  • We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. This site is intended for adults buying work equipment.

Cookies

The cookies on this site come from Google Analytics (to distinguish visits in aggregate) and from retailers when you click an affiliate link (to attribute commissions). We do not set advertising cookies. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; the site will continue to work normally, and blocking analytics cookies has no effect on what you can read.

Data retention

Contact-form messages are retained in the receiving mailbox for as long as needed to handle the correspondence and any follow-up. Analytics data is retained according to the retention period configured in Google Analytics. Server logs are retained by our hosting provider according to their policy.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to request access to the personal information we hold about you, to request its correction or deletion, and to object to certain processing. Residents of California, Colorado, Virginia and other states with comprehensive privacy laws, and residents of the UK and EEA, have specific statutory rights of this kind.

In practice we hold very little: unless you have emailed us or used the contact form, we almost certainly hold nothing that identifies you. To make a request, email contact@workbootsandgear.com and we will respond.

Because we do not sell personal information, there is nothing to opt out of in that respect - but if you would like us to delete a message you sent us, say so and we will.

Third parties we rely on

  • Vercel - website hosting and delivery.
  • Google Analytics - aggregate usage measurement.
  • Microsoft 365 / Microsoft Graph - delivering contact-form messages to our inbox.
  • Amazon - product data, prices and affiliate link attribution.

Security

This site is served over HTTPS. We do not take payments, we do not hold accounts and we do not store passwords, which removes most of the risk a site like this could otherwise carry. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, so please do not send us sensitive personal information through the contact form.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy we will update the date at the top. Material changes will be described rather than slipped in quietly, consistent with our editorial policy.
